4.2 Initializing and Formatting (if necessary)
For most operating systems (Windows 7+, Mac OS 10.11+, Android), the SSD should be recognized automatically. If the drive does not appear, you may need to initialize and format it.
- Windows: Open Disk Management (right-click 'This PC' > 'Manage' > 'Disk Management'). Locate the SSD, initialize it (GPT recommended for 1TB), and then create a new simple volume, formatting it with NTFS or exFAT.
- Mac: Open Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility). Select the SSD, click 'Erase', choose a name, format (APFS or Mac OS Extended for Mac, exFAT for cross-platform), and scheme (GUID Partition Map).
- Android: Most Android devices will prompt you to format the drive upon connection. Follow the on-screen instructions.
Note: Formatting will erase all data on the drive. Back up any important data before proceeding.
