The KG-UV980P can be installed in a vehicle or used as a base station. Use the provided mounting bracket and hardware to secure the main unit in a stable location. The detachable front panel allows for flexible placement, enabling the main unit to be hidden while the control head is mounted in an accessible position.

6.3. Memory Channels

The KG-UV980P supports 999 memory channels.

  • Storing a Channel: Tune to the desired frequency and settings (CTCSS/DCS, offset, etc.). Press MENU, navigate to the memory store option, select an empty channel, and confirm.
  • Recalling a Channel: Pịa VFO/MR button to switch to Memory Mode. Use the tuning knob or UP/DOWN buttons to select the desired memory channel.

6.4. CTCSS/DCS (Tone/Code Squelch)

CTCSS/DCS tones are used to filter out unwanted signals and allow for private communication within a group.

  • Pịa MENU, navigate to the CTCSS/DCS setting, and select the desired tone or code.
  • Ensure both transmit and receive tones are correctly set for repeater access or group communication.

6.5. Repeater Operation

The radio supports cross-band repeater functionality and same-band repeat on two combined radios.

  • Cross-Band Repeat: Configure the upper and lower bands with different frequencies. Access the menu to enable cross-band repeat mode.

6.6. Scanning Functions

The radio offers multiple scanning ways, including priority channel scanning and grouping channel scanning.

  • Configure DTMF settings in the menu for specific applications.

6.8. Power Management (APO)

Automatic Power Off (APO) can be configured to conserve power.

  • Access the menu to set the APO timer. The radio will automatically power off after a period of inactivity.

6.9. Backlight and Voice Guide

  • Adjust the backlight color and brightness via the menu settings for optimal visibility.
  • Enable or disable the English voice guide for menu navigation and function announcements.
