Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Inspect the scanner, cradle, and USB cord for any signs of damage. If any components are damaged, do not proceed with setup and contact customer support.
3.2. Battery Installation (if not pre-installed)
The DS8178-SR scanner requires 3 AA batteries. If the batteries are not pre-installed, open the battery compartment located on the handle of the scanner and insert the batteries, ensuring correct polarity. Close the compartment securely.
3.3. Connecting the Cradle
- Connect one end of the supplied USB cord to the USB port on the back of the communication/charging cradle.
- Connect the other end of the USB cord to an available USB port on your host device (e.g., desktop computer, laptop, or Point of Sale system).
- The cradle is designed with auto-host cables that will automatically identify your POS interface and connect the imager, simplifying the setup process.

3.4. Placing the Scanner in the Cradle
Gently place the DS8178-SR scanner into the cradle. Ensure it is seated correctly. The scanner will begin charging if the cradle is powered.

- Press and hold the trigger button. An aim line will project from the scanner.

- Once the barcode is successfully read, the scanner will emit an audible beep and/or a visual indicator (e.g., green light).
