On-Handle Operation (Inductive Locating)

This method is used when direct connection to the target line is not possible. The transmitter induces a signal into the ground, which is then picked up by the receiver.

  1. Place the Transmitter unit on the ground directly above or near the suspected location of the pipe or cable.
  2. Set the Transmitter to either Continuous or Warble Tone.
  3. Carry the Receiver unit and sweep the area, listening for the signal. The signal will be strongest directly over the buried line.
  4. Adjust the 'SENSITIVITY' control on the Receiver to refine the signal and pinpoint the exact location. Use 'HIGH' sensitivity for deeper lines or weaker signals, and 'NORMAL' for shallower lines or stronger signals.

Conductive Locating

This method provides a more precise locate by directly applying the transmitter's signal to the target pipe or cable.

  1. Connect the Transmitter to the target pipe or cable and to the ground stake as described in the Setup section.
  2. Turn on the Transmitter and select a tone.
  3. Turn on the Receiver and begin sweeping the area.
  4. Follow the strongest signal to trace the path of the buried line. The signal will peak directly over the line.
  5. Adjust Receiver sensitivity as needed to maintain a clear signal.
