3. Ntuziaka nwụnye
3.1 Mwepu na nyocha
Carefully unpack the fixture and inspect for any damage. Retain all packing materials in case of return. Ensure all components listed in the packaging are present.
3.2 Ebe nrịgo
Select a suitable mounting location on a wall or ceiling. The unit is designed for universal J-box mounting patterns and includes keyhole mounting slots. Ensure the location allows for proper illumination of the egress path.
Figure 2: Dimensions of the CU2-LED Emergency Light. The diagram shows the unit's length as 11 1/8 inches (282.6mm), width as 1 3/4 inches (45.0mm), and height as 5 3/8 inches (136.6mm).
3.3 Mounting the Back Plate
- Disconnect AC power to the junction box.
- Separate the front housing from the back plate. The unit is delivered with the mounting plate installed. Use a flat blade screwdriver in the designated slots to carefully pry open the unit.
- Position the back plate over the junction box. The back plate has multiple pre-drilled holes to accommodate various junction box configurations. Select the appropriate holes that align with your junction box.
- Secure the back plate to the junction box using appropriate screws (not included, typically provided with the junction box). Ensure the back plate is firmly attached to prevent movement.
- For hands-free wiring, utilize the EZ Hang feature. The back plate includes a tab and slot mechanism. Carefully insert the tab from the front housing into the corresponding slot on the back plate. This allows the front housing to hang while electrical connections are made.

- Use appropriate wire nuts for all connections. Ensure connections are tight and secure.
- After wiring, connect the battery pack to the circuit board. The battery connector is typically a small plug that fits into a corresponding receptacle on the PCB. Ensure it is fully seated.
IMPORTANT: Do not connect both 120V and 277V line wires simultaneously. Cap off the unused line wire with a wire nut.
3.5 Mgbakọ ikpeazụ
- Once all electrical connections are made and the battery is connected, carefully tuck all wires into the junction box.
- Align the front housing with the mounted back plate. Gently push the front housing onto the back plate until it snaps securely into place. Ensure there are no gaps between the housing and the mounting surface.
- Restore AC power to the circuit. The charge indicator light (usually an LED on the unit's housing) should illuminate, indicating the battery is charging.
4. Ọrụ
4.1 Ọrụ mbido
Upon initial power-up, allow the unit to charge for a minimum of 24 hours before conducting any tests. This ensures the nickel-cadmium battery reaches its full capacity.
4.2 Ọrụ akpaaka
The Sure-Lites CU2-LED Emergency Light is designed for automatic operation. When AC power is present, the unit's battery will charge, and the LED heads will remain off. In the event of an AC power failure or a significant voltage drop (brownout circuit activation), the unit will automatically switch to battery backup, illuminating the LED heads to provide emergency lighting.
Obere voltage disconnect feature protects the battery from deep discharge, extending its lifespan.
4.3 bọtịnụ ule
A test button is located on the unit's housing. Pressing and holding this button simulates an AC power failure, causing the LED heads to illuminate (if the battery is charged). Release the button to return to normal operation. This button is used for routine testing.
5. Nlekọta
5.1 Routine Testing
Regular testing is crucial to ensure the emergency light functions correctly during an actual power outage. Follow these guidelines:
- Kwa ọnwa: Press the test button for at least 30 seconds. The LED heads should illuminate. Release the button; the LED heads should turn off, and the charge indicator should remain lit.
- Kwa afọ: Disconnect AC power to the unit for a full 90 minutes. The LED heads should remain illuminated for the entire duration. Reconnect AC power; the LED heads should turn off, and the charge indicator should remain lit.
Keep a record of all tests for compliance purposes.
5.2 Ozi batrị
The unit contains a sealed nickel-cadmium battery. This battery requires a full recharge time of 24 hours (max.) at 120/277V or 48 hours at 240V after a discharge event. The battery is designed for long life but will eventually require replacement.
WARNING: Battery replacement should only be performed by qualified service personnel. Use only approved replacement batteries from Sure-Lites to ensure proper operation and safety.
To access the battery for replacement, the front housing must be carefully separated from the back plate using a flat blade screwdriver in the designated slots, similar to the initial installation process. Exercise caution to avoid damaging internal components.
5.3 Nhicha
Clean the exterior of the unit periodically with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the housing.
